The film first shows a typical case of hepatitis A, illustrating the importance of active immunisation. Hepatitis C, also due to an RNA virus, is quite different in its pathophysiology, being mainly blood-born, and susceptible to chronicity and ultimately leading to hepatocellular carcinoma. The cases shown and the expert discussions illustrate most of the important aspects of this disease and its (still unsatisfactory) treatment with pegylated interferon and antiviral drugs.
