The Mental Capacity Act (MCA) came into law in 2005 to protect and empower people who may lack the capacity or are at risk of compromised capacity. Issues around capacity, deprivation of liberty and the Mental Health Act are becoming more relevant as patients live longer and the idea of 'capacity' is better understood. In addition, speech and language therapists (SLTs) are now more often involved in this discussion.
This book supports SLTs in clinical practice who may be asked to deal with issues relating to the decision-making and mental capacity of their clients.
