Summary: The problem-orientated approach to the examination of the knee is demonstrated in two different subjects with different problems and concerns. First, a younger man with pain, swelling and locking of the knee, (with emphasis on the underlying anatomy);and second in an elderly lady with painful osteoarthritis. Finally, the examination of the ankle is undertaken in a woman with a previous fracture of the ankle and pain on walking.
