Summary: Attention in the NHS has been focused on integrated care in recent years, but there is rapid andpotentially disruptive change happening in other parts of the system, with opportunities to significantlyimprove services. One such area is the field of pathology. This report draws on a workshop andinterviews with a selection of clinical and managerial leaders involved in pathology, as well as a literaturescan. It aims to identify the opportunities and emerging trends affecting pathology that boards should beaware of, and to draw out lessons on making improvement happen in different fields.
