SURGICAL ANATOMY OF THE CRANIO-ORBITAL REGION. Surgical anatomy of the orbit -- Optic strut, optic canal and nerve -- Microsurgical anatomy of the superior and inferior orbital fissures -- CLINICAL AND IMAGING DIAGNOSIS. Clinical examination -- Neuroradiological imaging of cranio-orbital mass lesions -- SURGICAL APPROACHES TO THE CRANIO-ORBITAL REGION. The supraorbital-pterional approach -- The midline transfrontal approach -- The medial transorbital approach -- The frontotemporal-orbitozygomatic approach -- The lateral orbito-cranial approach -- The trans-sphenoidal trans-ethmoidal endoscopic approach to the orbit -- The transorbital endoscopic approaches -- SPECIFIC PATHOLOGICAL ENTITIES. Optic nerve gliomas -- Spheno-orbital meningiomas -- Intraorbital, intracanalar and optic sheath meningiomas -- Schwannomas of the oculomotor nerves -- Primary and metastatic bone tumors ofthe sphenoid wing and orbit -- Soft tissues orbital tumors -- Cranio-orbital fibrous dysplasia -- Orbital arteriovenous malformations -- Mucoceles of the ethmoid sinus and orbit.
Summary: This book fills a gap in the field of the cranio-orbital lesions, as it deals only with mass lesions involving both the intracranial and intra-orbital compartments. The surgical anatomy, diagnosis, surgical approaches and specified pathological mass lesions are described in detalis. The book includes four parts. Part 1, is devoted to the surgical anatomy of the orbital region. Part 2 to the clinical and neuroradiological examination of the cranio-orbital mass lesions. Part 3 discusses the surgical approaches, both trans-cranial and transorbital, and microscopic and endoscopic, focusing on the surgical techniques, their indications, advantages, limitations and complications. Finally, part 4 discusses the single pathological mass lesions, their anatomo-clinical and radiological aspects and the best surgical approaches. Aim of this book is to illustrate the best surgical approaches according to prevalent intracranial or intra-orbital extension and the type of the mass lesions.
